History

Holborn Community Development Project (HCDP) was established in 2001 in response to a report into the needs of the community of Holborn following the extended closure of local community centre, the 1A. HCDP was based at the Mary Ward Centre in Queen Square, London WC1 before moving to Bedford House Community Centre then finally into the newly refurbished 1A Centre in February 2008. In January 2005 HCDP was incorporated as a Company and registration as a charity followed in July of the same year.

Following 21 months of operation at the 1A Centre HCDP became 1A ARTS etc in November 2009. 1A ARTS etc is descriptive in a more meaningful way: the ‘1A’ locates us geographically at the 1A Centre which local people have been familiar with for more than 20 years; ‘ARTS’ because so much of the work we do is artsbased; ‘etc’ covers everything else which our organisation does and may develop to do in the future.
