Children and Young People

In the first 8 months of 2009 the number of children and young people 1A ARTS etc worked with increased by over 400% on the previous 8 months. This is largely due to the efforts of 1A ARTS etc’s Arts Co-ordinator for children and young people, Teanne Brown, who joined the organisation in January 2009. After school pottery classes now run on two days a week and are increasingly popular. The after school digital arts club for 8s to 12s has been set up to meet demand generated by the success of digital arts projects run during the school holidays. We now also cater for school groups who want to use digital arts to enhance their curriculum. Local schools also work in our arts workshop on various special projects. Other new media work with children and young people includes digital music production including evening sessions jamming with Garageband and animation workshops. 1A ARTS etc’s junior film group has had an exciting year and has achieved a First Light Movies award with funding to make a film using London Transport Museum’s Acton Depot as a location. In January 2010 we launched our youth arts forum who will advise us on what activities and workshops 1A ARTS etc should run for 16s to 19s.
